Day 10 Monday 11 September 2006 Litchfield - Darwin

Woke to the sound of birds. Had a walk along the billalong before breakfast and spotted the crocodile, a 2.5m female salty which was sunning itself on the opposite bank but at the sight of us slid silently into the water and started moving across with hardly a ripple. Crikey, these animals are expert hunters, can see underwater and are the fastest things over land for the first 3m. However they can’t turn so your best escape is to run sideways. Watched the croc watching us and eventually returned to camp to bacon and eggs, coffee and damper cooked on the remains of last night’s fire.

Had a second nature walk after breakfast, lots of interesting things to see and hear including trapdoor spiders and drop bear nests. Left around noon and Dani escorted us back along the track, through the river without too many mishaps and to Florence Falls. Later we went to some waterholes where Graham went swimming (no crocs this time)and back to Darwin for the evening
