Day 5 Wednesday 6 September 2006 Renner Springs to Darwin

Didn’t want to risk the motel breakfast, dinner was enough, so headed north to Daly Waters which reportedly had a good pub. Arrived about 9am and tucked into bacon and eggs whilst the locals tucking into their first beers. In this part of the world you don’t just rock up to the pub in your average holden, you bring your enormous road grader towing your hilux behind.
The pub is a bit of an institution with memorabilia (if you can call caps, t-shirts, stickers, underwear, old driving licences, foreign banknotes and student cards memorabilia) pinned to all the walls. We added a Dubai parking ticket to the collection before pushing on towards Darwin, past lots of termite mounds some of which were large and resembled giants standing beside the road.
Got a spare fuel filter at BMW and followed Ken (our annoying GPS bloke) to an apartment at Cullen Bay overlooking the Marina. Beautiful setting but apartment was a bit disappointing, sparsely furnished and starting to get a bit tired, although we have become very picky after Dubai. Dinner at a Greek restaurant on the wharf.
