Day 8 Saturday 9 September 2006 Darwin

A late start, had lunch at our favourite cafe and visited the Darwin museum and gallery in the afternoon. Excellent collections of aboriginal art and artefacts as well as a good selection of sailing and fishing vessels, a compelling section on Cyclone Tracy which in 1974 virtually wiped out the city on Christmas day, and lots of fauna and flora exhibits including the obligatory crocodile.

Early evening drinks at Buzz cafe in Cullen Bay, a magic spot on the water, just in time to catch a spectacular sunset made even more dramatic and vivid by smoke from bushfires on the Cox peninsula.
