Day 32 Tues 3 October 2006 Khao Sok – Hua Hin, Thailand

Still raining so abandoned the idea of a jungle trek. Gibbons calling in the distance and hornbills woop-wooping (or was it the other way round). Passed a large dam with an even larger lake with raft houses and karst mountains soaring from the lake. Then a long drive to Hua Hin, fortunately the road was pretty good although the towns were mostly dismal, dual carriage way most of the way. Very fertile countryside with every sort of fruit being cultivated and sold. Interesting that both Thailand and Malaysia seem to be able to build good long distance roads but Australia can’t even get the Pacific Highway finished.

Got to Hua Hin by nightfall and found the Anantara resort which looked v pretty by night, with beautiful gardens and an entrance resembling the elephant terrace at Angkor Wat. Dinner in a great little seafood restaurant on a pier, amid lots of other great little seafood restaurants on similar rickety piers.

Weather – rain 24.5,
Distance 593km
Distance from start 7152km
