Day 107 Saturday 16th December, Agra – Gurgaon, India

The Taj Mahal takes up much of the morning. It's every bit as fabulous as its reputation, and the hassles of getting in are soon forgotten as we gaze at it and wander round. Even the crowds of tourists, mostly Indian, don’t detract from the spectacle.

Then its back to the hotel and into the car for the drive to Delhi. However as we can’t find a hotel room there for under US$300 per night we’ve booked into one at a place called Gurgaon which turns out to be the heart of Delhi’s silicon valley and reasonably close to the airport for I2’s early morning flight. As usual we have left too late and night is falling before we reach Gurgaon via some cross country roads. We are somewhat amused to see the car in front asking directions at every turn so we decide to follow behind, working on the basis that as they have a Delhi number plate they might be going in a similar direction as us. There’s an amazing transition as we approach the city from the rural poverty and villages to gleaming high rises and shopping centres. We find the hotel by instinct. It's an ultra stylish place with nice v modern rooms and a good restaurant which depletes our budget again.
