Day 89 Wednesday 29 November, Kathmandu to Bandipur, Nepal

After repacking the car (where did all this stuff come from?) we squash in the extra Intrepids and extricate ourselves from Kathmandu’s traffic and head down the valley dodging kamikaze trucks and buses coming up from India. The road is steep and winding but the buses overtake anywhere and everywhere, blind corners being the favourite. It seems buses are the dominant species and if you are going down you are expected to stop and give way to anyone overtaking coming up. Whilst this initially appears disconcertingly suicidal, given the average speed of the traffic it actually works reasonably well, although we are not game to join in.

The road runs along the Trisuli river where the new Intrepids, terrified by the buses, swap the road for the river and raft down thru the rapids for 40km whilst the old Intrepids dodge trucks to make the video. The rafting is pronounced pretty good although the rapids are a bit tame and only the guide falls out.

After drying off we continue on to Bandipur, perched high above the valley where we drive across the local soccer field thru a schoolies bbq to reach the Bandipur Mountain Resort, a rather tired establishment but in a superb setting with great views over the snow capped mountains where we are the only guests.
