Day 119 Sunday 14 January 2007 Delhi – Jaipur
After breakfast we sort out the car and repack which takes till early afternoon. Then we drive south through Gurgaon, India’s IT headquarters city towards Jaipur. Gurgaon is a complete contrast to everywhere else we have been in India with gleaming glass highrise buildings and wide streets. It even has shopping malls – we haven’t even found a supermarket anywhere else. The road to Jaipur is of a good standard, dual carriageway with little traffic so we arrive before dark and check into the Holiday Inn (Yes I know but we were able to book it on line, and its got secure parking). It’s kite flying festival in Jaipur with millions of kites being flown from every rooftop, and there are fireworks everywhere after dark. We have dinner at Surabhi, a quaint restaurant tucked away behind the gate to the old city, with a small dance troupe and a museum of turbans. Did you know that turbans can be up to 45m long and the colours change with the seasons, the village the wearer comes from and his occupation?
