Spend most of the day trying to find elusive police stations to report the camera theft, eventually we find one but they don’t speak any English so send us away again. We buy a new camera, eschewing the latest models in favour of the old one we are familiar with and spend an hour sipping coffee overlooking the Golden Horn watching as a band of fog drifts in and out in the sunshine.
We arrange accommodation at the Empress Zoe Hotel for our return visit when we come back to collect the car, and discover a fabulous roof top bar and restaurant with fantastic views over the Blue Mosque, Aya Sophia and the Marmara Sea where we watch the sun set and wrapped in shawls provided by the restaurant have a great dinner with more grilled meat. We are the only ones to brave the cold but its worth it for the atmosphere.
