Kahta to Goreme, Turkey

Wed 18 April 2007

A long but uneventful day’s drive westwards to Cappadocia (pronounced cappadokia), through the ice cream capital of Turkey, the salami capital of Turkey and the pistachio capital of Turkey. We also see three turkeys as well as several storks which build enormous nests on the tops of electricity poles, a number of eagles and a woodpecker on our twitchers tour of turkey.

By late afternoon we arrive at Goreme in the heart of Cappadocia and find the marvellous Kelebek hotel with its cave rooms and fairy chimneys high above the village. We light the fire in our room and decide to stay three nights.
