Day 198 Tues 1 May 2007 Pamukkale to Bodrum, Turkey
A relatively short drive via Aphrodisias with its superb temple to Aphrodite dating from Roman times,a beautiful odeon or small theatre, also used for meetings and an enormous stadium, used for contests both sporting and gladiatorial. The site is quite small and well signed compared with Hierapolis. Then it’s on to Bodrum, a fishing village and tourist mecca on the southern Aegean coast where, to our surprise, its raining. We stay in the appropriately named Su (or water) Hotel, a lovely little toy town place where the buildings are white cubes set around a large pool, with balconies, doors, furniture etc all painted in primary colours, set off by green palm trees and purple bougainvillea. Dinner comprises pizza at a little waterside restaurant near the marina.
