Day 207 Thurs 10 May 2007 Litochoro (Mt Olympus) to Delphi, Greece

We drive up the side of Mt Olympus through beech and pine forests, with expansive views over the Aegean far below and glimpses of the snow capped summit above, but decide that there’s not enough time to walk to the top – its a two day climb and our trekking days are over. Then we head south on what’s designated a motorway but in reality is a two lane highway along which everyone careers at 160km/hr no wonder Greece has the highest road toll in Europe and is quite the most dangerous place to drive we’ve been through.

There are inlets of the azure sea everywhere – its stunningly beautiful if one can risk a glance. Soon we reach the Gulf of Corinth and drive up to Delphi (another world heritage site) where we check into the Olympic Hotel with its views down to Itrea on the coast far below dinner. After walking up and down the main street we are enticed by a restaurant with a large terrace overlooking the bay but unfortunately no sooner have we sat down than we are joined by hundreds of tour group people so we quickly adjourn to an internet cafe to post the next blog.
