Day 220 Wed 23 May 2007 Hvar to Trogir, Croatia

Up early to catch the 11am ferry, we breakfast on the quay and then head off to join the ferry queue to the mainland. It's about 2hrs across to Split where we visit the Diocletian Palace, built as the Emperor Diocletius’s retirement home in 300AD and later taken over as a town by the citizens of nearby Saloma when they were attacked by the Slavs. Its on the WH list of course and we wander around the narrow streets, stopping for coffee and visiting ancient churches before heading northwards to Trogir, another WH town with strong venetian influences.

We find a hotel on the waterfront overlooking the old town and venture in search of dinner. What appears to the usual Croatian fare turns out to be the most delicious meal for a while.
