Day 230 Sat 2 Jun 2007 Costa Smeralda, to Bosa, Sardinia, Italy
A beautiful drive around the north coast of Sardinia visiting little marina villages and towns with castles on the way, including a stop to buy Sardinian cheeses and ham and another to watch the waves before having a picnic lunch in the lee of a Spanish tower near St Terase dei Gallura. The roads are quiet although quite twisting and most of the villages seem deserted, possibly because its Republic day although there are no signs of the parade that Rome was preparing for. By late afternoon we’re ready to tackle the coast road from Alghero to Bosa on the west side of the island, which clings to the mountainside high above the of the sea, occasionally dipping down to rocky coves before climbing back up again. We reach Bosa at sunset, on the banks of the Tema river where we find a little hotel at the top of three flights of steep stairs.
