Day 236 Fri 8 Jun 2007 Bosa, Sardinia to Lucca, Italy

A very early start, fortunately we managed to get some petrol, with dawn breaking as we head to Alghero airport for I2 to catch the flight to Rome, HK and Sydney. After making the airport in time, Kenny decides to spend the morning explore Cala Gonone on Gulfo di Orosei on the east coast where there are steep limestone cliffs plunging into the sea. It’s a bit hazy so instead of a boat trip we make do with a cappuccino on the terrace before driving north via an amazing bronze age village of Serra Orrios with remains of 70 or so round stone huts and burial chambers called nuraghe and on to Golfo Aranco in time to catch the afternoon ferry to the mainland at Livorno. It’s another enormous yellow thing, this one even larger and glitzier than the one we went on, with a swimming pool, cocktail bar and full of German kamper vans mostly with a full complement of bikes, scooters, windsurfers and kids. Most of them are old hands at this trip, knowing how to grab the best seats and get to the front of the meal queues

Although its very fast, its pretty late by the time we reach the mainland but Kenny guides us unfailingly through the spaghetti of motorways to the hotel on the outskirts of Lucca, another wotif special.
