Day 242 Thurs 14 Jun 2007, Calle di Val d’Elsa, Tuscany
Today its sightseeing by the book, ie we bought the book so now we’re reading it by the pool and looking at the pictures instead of chasing round the countryside. However by 2pm its time to move so we decide to visit Sienna down the road, finding an interesting Abbey on the way which used to be an important stopping point for pilgrims on the Via Franca or road from UK and France to Rome.
Sienna is another town with a medieval car free centre with narrow alleyways and palazzi on every corner. Eschewing the climb to the top of the Torre del mangia we sit in Il campo soaking up the atmosphere before finding dinner at an ancient hostelry where the special of the day is tripe – delicious.
