Day 253 Mon 25 Jun 2007 Olomouc, Czech Republic

Awaking at 9.30, we decide that the apartments so nice we’ll stay an extra night and spend a leisurely day exploring the town of Olomouc, much of which is being dug up to renew the tram tracks through the main street. We check out the various cathedrals, churches and town hall with its astronomical clock with communist inspired workers chiming the hours. We inspect the Unesco listed Holy Trinity Column and decide it needs a good clean, it looks as if it only just scaped on to the list and really doesnt compare with the Taj Mahal. In the evening we venture in search of more beer and dumplings and discover that Moldavian wine isn’t too bad either. After Italy, Austria and Switzerland, Czeckia is very reasonably priced for the traveller in terms of lodging and food although there’s a strong emphasis on meat and not too much on vegetables (except cabbage).
