Day 255 Wed 27 Jun 2007 Prague, Czech Republic

A lazy morning checking out the washing machine, the first we've seen in almost a month, and in the afternoon a leisurely stroll over the Charles Bridge and around the old town. (another Stari Grad like those of Albania and Montenegro – similar languages). It's quite touristy but very pretty, lots of elaborately decorated houses and mansions, narrow streets, squares and lots of spires. The bridge which dates from 1348 and was for a long time Prague's only bridge is lined with statues including one of the patron saint of Prague who was thrown from the bridge for refusing to reveal the dying Queen's deathbed confession to King Wenceslas (we're not sure if it was Wenceslas who wanted to know or if it was to the king that she made the confession). Anyway over he went with a millstone round his neck to join a long list of martyrs. Then we paint an intrepidtoo brick and add it to a wall for a mentally handicapped charity before dining on more goulash, dumplings, cabbage and roast duck.
