Day 259 Sun 1 Jul 2007 Krakow to Warsaw, Poland
Exploring Krakow by daylight, we revisit the old town square (which of course is on the WH list) and the Royal Way, the route leading from the barbican gate to the Castle, lined with churches, palaces, bars and kebab shops (a vestige of Poland's Ottoman empire heritage). Heading for Wawel Hill with its castle, royal palaces and cathedral we inspect the state rooms with their masses of tapestries, oil paintings and medieval furniture.
By late afternoon we decide its time to leave for Warsaw a five hour drive north. Fortunately the roads not too bad by Polish standards and we reach the hotel by 10pm where we arrive starving to find all the restaurants have closed.
