Day 272 Sat 14 Jul 2007 Nordkapp to Alta, Norway

After midnight blogging at the north cape, it’s all down hill from here as we drive south towards Alta. The weather, initially sunny turns to rain as we reach Honnisvag, a busy little very northerly township bustling with cruise ships (three in port today). We take out a second mortgage to go to the supermarket – Norway is seriously expensive but we guess the bananas have come a long way - and to go back through the macbank tunnel. It’s raining hard for most of the journey but clears the instant we reach Alta where we visit the museum to inspect the Neolithic world heritage listed rock carvings. The extensive carvings, which show fishing, hunting reindeer, bear and geese are along a walkway in the birch forest on the edge of a fjord.
