Day 273 Sun 15 Jul 2007 Alta to Tromso, Norway

An amazingly beautiful drive along fjords and past mountains replete with snowfields and glaciers, through fishing villages and on and off ferries as we travel south to Tromso. We reach Tromso, a small university town on an island around 7pm and check into a very pleasant hotel. To get there we drive through a maze of tunnels in the hill behind the town, one of which even has a round-about inside it. Sunday evening and Tromso’s a bit dead with most restaurants closed so we don’t get to sample the arctic fare. However its about the first place we've been since Prague where Aerosmith arent playing that night or where the Stones arent touring in a couple of weeks, although Iggy and the Stooges are due here at the weekend - dont think we'll hang around.
